Aikido Of South Florida Iwama Aiki Shin ShIn Shuren Kai USA Established for over 25 years. Dojo Cho is Stephanie Yap Sensei, 7th Dan STORY Aikido of South Florida is a Traditional Japanese Martial Art School in Downtown Hollywood that has been established for over 25 years and is recognized as one of the oldest Aikido schools in South Florida. Aikido of South Florida was founded by Stephanie Yap Sensei who has earned a 7th degree black belt and the Menkyo Kaiden in Aiki-Ken and Aiki-Jo, awarded to her by the late Morihiro Saito Sensei, 9th dan. After graduating from the School of Engineering and Design in Miami, FL, Sensei Yap engaged in becoming a long term uchideshi (live in apprentice) to Morihiro Saito Sensei, one of the highest ranking and most prestigious aikidoists in the world. This initial training as uchideshi under Morihiro Saito Sensei has subsequently been enhanced by annual training sessions, accumulating over four years spent living and training in Iwama, Japan. In addition to her regular class schedule, Sensei Yap has provided seminars in the USA, Korea, Mongolia, Scotland, Germany and South America, to name a few, and also instructed the Hollywood and Ft Lauderdale Police Departments and the Fort Lauderdale S.W.A.T team for several years in a series of seminars formatted towards their specific needs. Throughout her many years of dedication and diligence to the Saito Family, Sensei Yap, a member of Iwama Shin Shin Aiki Shurenkai, has achieved the honor of being the highest ranking female in the organization. Giving Back: For several years Yap Sensei has had the privilege of being involved with Aikido Humanitarian Active Network, a non-profit organization serving underprivileged and charities worldwide that include Children with Cancer and Orphanages. Yap Sensei is also very active in her community with numerous charities and causes for local Crisis Centers, Hollywood Outreach Centers, Project Hope Tote, Pack the Pantry, Feeding the Homeless and Veteran projects. Through the years her seminars and local projects have managed to raise over $32,000 for food, medical supplies and other provisions for charities . We feel these activities are opportunities for us to collaborate our efforts and genuine desire to help others, as a group- pool our friends and family together to get involved. We hope that through our efforts we can possibly change someone’s life, or simply give to others that are less fortunate.
